What is therapy?

The decision to come to therapy can be anxiety provoking at first. People choose psychotherapy for many different reasons. Here are some things that you or your adolescent may be experiencing and that may lead to you to consider therapy:

  • You may feel depressed; feel a prolonged and overwhelming sense of sadness, hopelessness and helplessness.

  • You may feel anxious, have an excessive amount of worrying and struggle to see how things will get better.

  • You may be experiencing difficulties in your peer, home or intimate relationship, experiencing a high degree of conflict or unhappiness in your relationships with others.

  • You may struggle to get things done, feeling like “something is just not right” or find yourself thinking that you don’t feel like yourself anymore.

  • You may have experienced a traumatic event or the loss of a loved one.

  • You may find it difficult to manage your emotions, becoming angry, irritated or tearful very easily or quickly.

  • You may find yourself in a cycle of harmful ways of coping, such as substance use, gambling or other harmful behaviours.

  • You may suffer from work stress, burnout, stress at home or be struggling to adjust to major life transitions.

My aim is to offer a safe and non-judgemental space where you are able to explore the difficulties in your life, whether these are difficulties that you are currently facing or a pattern in your thoughts and behaviours that have caused a lack of satisfaction in life. Therapy offers you a space to gain a deeper understanding of your internal and interpersonal difficulties, and through the therapeutic relationship we can explore these thoughtfully and in a safe environment.
